Lab 10 (under construction!)
Try to complete as much as you can. Hand in a transcription file (FullName_lab10.eaf) from section 2 in MySchool before midnight today (22 October).
1. ELAN Transcription Tool
Download and try out the ELAN audio and video transcription tool. Have a look at the documentation on the same web page. Start with the HowTo Guide and pay special attention to creating annotation tiers.
2. Transcribing a Discourse
Try your hand at transcribing a conversation between a couple of individuals. In addition to noting what is being said and by whom, mark also non-verbial behaviour that plays a function in the discourse. For this you will want to add tiers for gestures, gaze and postures. You might want to review the relevant slides from tuesdays lecture.
You can use the video file provided here below or try to find a video of a two to three minute naturally occuring conversation between two or three individuals. For example on Youtube. If you find a video on Youtube you can use the savefrom.net website to download the video (just add “ss” in from of the youtube domain name: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXX ⇒ https://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=XXX). Remember to provide a link to the video in the comment secion in myschool.
