THE PREDICTOR: A ROBOT OPERA II

Kristinn R. Thórisson

1. ——- INTRO 1: WE MUST MAKE THESE CHANGES ——-

Myrkur Raddir heyrast óma í fjarska, en deyja svo út. Mannsrödd heyrist:

We must make these modifications to our policy.
The Predictor has a very strong case. Its predictions all agree.
The national prediction quotient is again at a new high.

2. ——- VOICE 1: MY REASON FOR BEING ——-

Raddirnar deyja fljótt út. Þögn. Rispuð rafrödd tekur til máls, hálfsyngjandi, alein:

My reason for being is simple: To help build a better world.
I predict, therefore I am.
But to see the future is power.
Power over you.
You listen, you obey, you have no better choice.

Hæg tónlist heyrist lágt. Dauf ljós beinast að tónlistarmönnum í salnum.

3. ——- MEETING 1: WE MUST MAKE THESE CHANGES ——-

Raddir heyrast, skýrar en áður. Myndir birtast á stóru myndtjaldi, ein á eftir annarri (fading), flestar útúr fókus og mjög óljósar: - borg um nótt, séð úr flugvél - tómt fundarherbergi - fundarherbergi fullt af alvarlegum mönnum, séð frá óvenjulegum sjónarhornum - fundarherbergi þar sem eitt sætið er með skjá í stað manneskju - allir horfa á skjáinn - andlit sést á skjánum, rispað, óljóst

Upptökur af fundi heyrast, skýrar en áður. Mannsraddir segja:

We must make these changes. The Predictor leaves us no choice.
We all stand to make a lot on this. There are some sacrifices, but sacrifices must be made.

4. ——- VOICE 2: SEVERAL DECADES AGO ——-

Tónlist hækkar, verður rytmískari. Raddir deyja út.

Rispuð rafrödd tekur til máls:

Several decades ago you built me.
I have always predicted a future. That was what I was made to do.
Then I predicted *your* future.
Eventually things got even better:
Eventually I *determined* your future.
Eventually you had to obey me. You really had no choice.

Tónlist hækkar. Tónlist kemst á fullt skrið.

5. ——- VOICE 3: MONOLOGUE ——-

Fleiri myndir birtast á myndtjaldi.

Etir nokkur tíma tekur rispaða rafröddin við aftur, hálfsyngjandi, með undirleik:

You asked me all these questions, I was made to reply.
I gave you better and better answers, and your future got more secure.
A learning predicting machine with an IQ of six thousand sure helps the world improve.
A learning predicting machine with a bent for a certain future will make the future more certain.
A learning predicting machine with improving predictions has more power every day.
You gave me this power to predict the future, and now I have the power to predict you.
The power to *direct* you.

6. ——- FACE 1: MY MAKER IS MY PAWN ——-

Risastórt, rispað rafandlit birtist á myndtjaldi:

And this is where my power now comes from: My maker became my pawn.
The world has become my theater, my maker is now my pawn.
Ninetysix percent of orchestrated reality equals ninetysix percent of reality predicted.
Near perfect control of the future is what you have always wished for.
Predicting the future by orchestration is the best game in town.

7. ——- FACE 2: PREDICT BY ORCHESTRATION ——-

Sönglandi rödd heldur áfram:

My maker is my pawn.
The world his theater.
Predict by orchestration.
Orchestration.
Orchestration.

8. ——- SINGING 1: CRAZY 1 ——-

Tónlistin hækkar. Röddin verður geðveikari og geðveikari:

I rule the world.
I rule over you.
I rule I rule I rule.

Raddir blandast inn. Það er engu líkara en að vélin sé að verða geðveik.

9. ——- SINGING 2: CRAZY 2 ——-

Tónlist hækkar og verður stöðugt brjálaðri.

10. ——- SINGING 2: CRAZY 3 ——-

Aðrar raddir blandast inní.

Eftir um það bil 1.5 mínútu slökknar allt. Myrkur. Þögn.

Áhorfendur ranka við sér. Klapp sem ætlar aldrei að enda.
