Example Final Exam Questions

Example Question Example Answer
What is an ABA experimental design and why would anyone use it?
Give examples.
Also called “repeated measures”, the ABA design spreads the experimental conditions over time, doing one condition after another. It comes in handy in cases where there are constraints on the possibility of doing the experimental (two or more) conditions simultaneously.
- we want to use the same subjects as their own controls (e.g. if you have a limited number of patients with a particular kind of disease);
- in cases where the main independent variable cannot be manipulated to hold two (or more) values simultaneously (e.g. if you have one operation room and want to see if ultraviolet light helps disinfect that room during operations).
Give an example of an experiment that uses (create your own example from scratch).
